Jumping at Sprinkles

$2,000.00

This 5x7 piece has a bold jumping spider investigating the surface of a doughnut which has a big bite taken out of it.

The 16ga copper was hand raised and chased over pitch from both the inside and outside to achieve the depth of relief.

The design was one I drew this year in late summer and over the course of a few months brought it to life in the thicker copper. It has a subtle patina that gives a warm contrast highlighting textures through the piece.

The drawing came to me while I was thinking about themes that play with what we consider innocent and what we deem dangerous.

The design presented a number of challenges that I appreciated. The most difficult was the big bite and keeping the surface of the doughnuts frosting level through the shaping of the sprinkles. Making the bite appear like it had just been bitten and portraying the different textures of the crisp frosting and the bubbly like inner dough textures proved challenging.

It comes with the frame shown and is easy to remove in the event you have a different display in mind.
